Biggles of 266 is a collection of 9 stories looking at the lighter/wierder site of the air war on the Western Front. As Capt Johns says in his foreword:

"To the student of modern warfare and high-performance aircraft these stories will appear far-fetched. So they are. But in 1916 war-flying was [original emphasis] far-fetched.... They were great days, days the world will never see again, and Biggles, like most pilots of the period, made the most of them."

Several of these stories were originally published within Biggles in France.

• A ride to remember - Biggles hitches a ride in a German observation balloon to escape after being shot down, only to be shot down in turn by Mahoney.
• The camera - Biggles re-engineers his Camel to capture a fantastic new camera, only to shoot a hole in it in the process.
• The prize - Biggles and Wilks challenge each other to drop leaflets the furthest behind the lines in order to win a gramaphone.
• Humbugs - Biggles plays a trick on Wilks that ends with him shooting up his own pyjamas with a machine gun.
• The turkey - Biggles flies into occupied territory to steal a turkey from the German officers xmas table.
• War in hot blood - Biggles and co declare war on a squadron that shot and killed one of his colleagues whilst on the ground.
• Reprisals - Biggles and Wilks dress up as Colonels to tear a strip of a new squadron leader pushing his weight around a bit too much.

The last two are new:

• The challenge - Biggles takes up a challenge for an airborne duel after accidentally bombing the German's wine cellar.
• The pilot who lost his way - Biggles unmasks a spy pretending to be a lost French pilot.
