Wings of War (Boxed Editions)

Famous Aces

This was the first Wings of War release. It includes a selection of fighters with personal colours of some of the most renowned aces of WWI.

Manouevre cards for five aircraft are included:

Watch your Back!

Watch your back! introduces a few new aircraft, and for the first time some two-seaters, allowing you to shoot behind you. No more creeping up on someone's tail.

Five aircraft are included:

The rules are essentially the same as Famous Aces (so you could skip the box set and just get the miniatures instead - they give you the manoeuvre cards you need).

Burning Drachens

This set raises the bar from the first two, and for the first time supports solo play.

Four aircraft are included:

This set introduces optional altitude rules (which explains why the miniatures have variable altitude pegs) as well as anti-aircraft fire. It also provides a target observation balloon for solo and multi-player scenarios. Weapons of choice now include incendiary bullets or the famous Le Prieur air-to-air rockets.

WW1 Deluxe

A great first set, this includes all the basic rules plus additional items for bombing/strafing taken from Burning Drachens. But best of all you also get four miniatures: Fokker DR.I (Richtofen), Spad XIII (Baracca), Camel (Barker) and Albatros D.Va (Udet).

With it being so hard to get hold of the Baron's Red Fokker independently this might be the only way to add him to your collection.

Dawn of World War II

This is the first boxset for WW2 with a focus on the early years (1939 - 1941). Aircraft include a Spitfire, a Messerschmitt, a Hurricane, a Wildcat, and a zero.

The game play is completely different in this set to the WW1 boxes. So as much as you want to put a Camel up against a Messerschmitt, you can't. BUt we know who'd win anyway.....

Fire From the Sky

This is the second boxset with the new game play for WW2. With it you get a few more fighters (including the P-40 Tomahawk) but the real highlight are some dive-bombers: Stuka for the Axis, Val for Japan and Dauntless for United States and France. And if that's not enough the box also introduces anti-aircraft guns.

WWII Deluxe

This is a special edition package putting all the best bits of WW2 into one box. You get all the basic rules, plus the extra dive-bombing rules from Fire From the Sky, AND four miniature aircraft. Not just any four either, but the major aircraft from each of the main powers: Spitfire, Messerschmitt, Zero and a Wildcat.
